Zeke Ferrell had a pair of goals Friday as the Greenfield School varsity boys soccer team captured its fourth straight victory with a 3-1 conquest of DASH United on Forbes Field.

The Knights, 1-A members of the split 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference, are now 5-1.

Ferrell netted the first two goals for Greenfield, fielding a through ball from Jeremy Alvarez in the 26th and putting it way. With Greenfield leading 1-0 at the half, Sebastian Partida found Ferrell’s feet, and he beat a pair of defenders to send in a shot from 18 yards away into the lower-left corner.

DASH pulled one back in the 68th on a Greenfield miscue, but Alvarez netted an insurance marker in the 72nd off a pass from Jacob Wiggs.

“Really strong week all around for the team,” Greenfield head coach Eric Nguyen said. “We improved each day and are beginning to put all of our ideas together. I’m very proud of these guys.”

Greenfield travels to CPIC foe Raleigh Friendship Christian on Tuesday.

Chargers blank Fuquay-Varina 4-0

FUQUAY-VARINA — Scoring a pair of goals in each half, the Wilson Christian varsity boys soccer team recorded its first conference victory of the year with a 4-0 victory over Hilltop Christian on Friday. A stout defense continued for the Chargers of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A District 3 ranks, with goalkeeper Harrison Parker notching six saves. Robert Murray opened the scoring for WCA (3-1) in the 21st minute, finishing an assist from Will Hoskins, The margin doubled in the 37th adrer Gabe Barnes put away a feed from Elliott Resendiz.

Barnes fed Thomas Evans for a 3-0 Chargers cushion in the 58th, and Barnes slammed home an unassisted marker later in the half to complete the scoring.

The Chargers owned a 20-8 advantage in shots.

WCA is at Raleigh Christian on Tuesday.


Ladybirds beat weather, Lady Cougars

PINETOPS — The Southern Nash High girls tennis team won all six of its singles matches en route to a 7-0 victory over SouthWest Edgecombe on Thursday afternoon.

With the victory, the Ladybirds (3-0) of the 3-A Big East Conference remain undefeated so far this season, having dropped just one match point so far.  

Electing to play eight-game pro sets, Southern Nash plowed through singles play. Senior Iris Radilla at No. 1 singles beat her opponent Lizzie Johnson, followed by wins from senior Brisa Sevilla, junior Karen Flores, senior Eliza Hernandez, junior Rubi Guirrez and junior Trish Glover.

Following singles play, the duo of Hernandez-Glover made quick work of Chloe Peaden-Malena Chapman before the rest of doubles play had to be called due to a storm in the area.SouthWest Edgecombe of the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference fell to 1-1.

The Ladybirds will play Smithfield-Selma on Monday, taking on the Spartans of the 3-A Greater Neuse River Conference for the second time this season. Southern Nash captured its first win over SSS in the season-opener Monday.

WCA gets sweep in region opener

FUQUAY-VARINA — The undefeated Wilson Christian Academy varsity volleyball team served into North Carolina Christian Schools Association 2-A East Region competition Friday with a 25-8, 25-15, 25-14 road win against Hilltop Christian.

The Lady Chargers boosted their record to 3-0 and visit Raleigh Christian on Tuesday.

Senior Ashley Hartsfield sparked WCA with 11 assists and four aces. Tori Linkous again led in kills with nine, while Emily Barnes contributed six assists.
Danielle Reece chipped in with five kills and four assists, while Payton Norville served for five aces.


Lady Chargers cop victory at Hilltop

FUQUAY-VARINA — On the road again Friday, the Wilson Christian Academy volleyball team prevailed 27-29, 25-13, 25-11 against Hilltop Christian on Friday in its North Carolina Christian Schools Association 2-A East Region opener.

Sparking the Lady Chargers to their second win without a loss were Izzy Barnes with 10 service points, four aces and 15 assists; and Reagan Barnes with 17 service points.

Jennifer Edmundson supplied nine digs to the winning cause, while Sophia Nesbit pounced for seven kills. Kendall Sykes added 13 service points.

Wilson Christian is the guest of Raleigh Christian on Tuesday.

Lady Chargers conquer Greenfield

The Wilson Christian volleyball team remained unbeaten with a 25-11, 25-19 victory at Greenfield on Thursday.

For Greenfield (0-2), Darcy Dean led the way with six aces, with Pauling Ngo adding five. Fletcher Worrell tallied three aces.  Serenity McNair led the attack with three kills.
