Wilson County Schools will dismiss students three hours early on Thursday due to forecasts calling for sleet and snow.

High schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m., elementary schools at noon and middle schools at 12:30 p.m., district spokeswoman Amber Lynch said in a Wednesday evening announcement.

The Wilson Early College Academy and Wilson Academy of Applied Technology will be closed Thursday. WCS' after-school care program will be closed and all after-school activities and athletics have been canceled, Lynch said.

“Staff members should check with their supervisor about when they can leave for the day,” Lynch wrote in the announcement.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for about 3 inches of snow in Wilson. If the snow accumulates, officials will decide whether to cancel or postpone school for Friday on Thursday morning.

Wilson County Schools bases cancellation, delay and early dismissal decisions on information from the National Weather Service and Wilson County Emergency Management, Lynch said.
