TIGERVILLE, S.C. — After allowing just two goals in the first 9 1/2 minutes, the Barton College women’s lacrosse team, coming off a three-week break, was dealt a 19-1 NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas loss by North Greenville University on Thursday.
Lady Bulldogs freshman Kia Morris, in her collegiate debut as a goalkeeper, recorded four saves in the opening 10 minutes. But by halftime, North Greenville owned a 11-1 advantage.
Senior Kianna Jimenez connected for the Barton goal, benefiting from a scoring opportunity set up by Rebecca Fraser in the closing minutes of the first half. Jimenez notched her team-leading fourth goal in the Lady Bulldogs’ first year of existence.
Morris, who started the previous four matches at defender, amassed eight saves. The Lady Bulldogs showed progress in committing a season-low 15 turnovers.
But winless Barton lost for the fifth time. All matches have been against conference opponents. The Crusaders claimed their first conference win against two losses and stand 3-4 overall.
North Greenville got four goals from Hanna Hawkins, three from Madison Boudreau and two each from Monica Colwell, Jillian Cheisa and Aly Estes.
Barton again plays in North Greenville’s Pepsi Stadium at 2 p.m. Friday against the University of Montevallo.
