Monday evening I attended the Wilson Youth Council’s Awards Night, held at the city’s operations center. This is the year-end event where the high school students celebrate their achievements from the year and talk about what’s next.
It filled me with pride to see this group of young people from different backgrounds and parts of the county come together, respect each other and work together on common goals. It was very refreshing to meet these bright, polite young people and hear about their plans for the future. Many of the seniors will be attending colleges this fall, including Harvard.
I want to thank Theresa Mathis, the youth council’s adviser, and the rest of the Wilson Human Relations Office for all they do to inspire these teenagers each year. I believe Wilson has some of the best young people around and their future is limitless.
