Wilson Preparatory Academy scholars came running across the gym when the name Stephanie Sanders was called for the Teacher of the Year award.
Sanders, an English teacher, shares that honor this year with Stephen Howell, the chorus teacher.
“I don’t choose who is teacher of the year,” said Daryl M. Woodard, founder and executive director. “Teachers vote for their peers. And this year the numbers were tied.”
Sanders, in tears, said she could not believe it when her name was called during a ceremony late last month.
“We all work hard with our students and want each one to excel, so I am very honored to be chosen by my peers.”
Howell also said he was honored. “It is such a privilege to work here at WPA, and to get this award just makes my day,” Howell said.
This is Howell’s first year at Wilson Prep.
“Congratulations to Miss Sanders and Mr. Howell,” Woodard said. “We thank you for your diligence and superb work.”
