Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in a hotel parking lot early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a 2:06 a.m. shots-fired call at Days Inn on Tarboro Street.

When officers arrived, they were directed to a room where a party appeared to have happened, police said.

At the same time, officers were contacted about an injured man at Wilson Medical Center related to incident, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.

Investigators spoke to the victim, 20-year-old Mitchell A. McCoy of Wilson, who was grazed by a bullet, Stroud said. Mitchell told police that he was sitting in a car at the Days Inn when shots were fired and he was struck while sitting in the vehicle, police said.

Multiple men dressed in dark clothing who were running toward Pizza Hut after the incident are believed to be responsible.

“The suspects are still unknown at this time,” Stroud said.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
