A Wilson man faces a murder charge in connection to a Sept. 24 shooting that claimed the life of a Fayetteville man.

Lavaris Davarian Speight, 20, is accused of killing Justin L. Williams of the 6300 block of Raeford Road in Fayetteville.

Speight, of Brandon Circle in Wilson, is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts shooting into an occupied vehicle and assault in the presence of a minor.

Speight, who was wanted on Fayetteville charges, turned himself in to the Wilson County Magistrates’ Office Friday, according to Wilson officials. The Wilson Police Department served Speight on the outstanding warrants.

A 2015 graduate of Fike High, Speight was a member of the Golden Demons’ football and baseball teams. He was named to The Wilson Times football All-Area team as a senior.

Fayetteville police responded to the 6300 block of Raeford Road shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 24.
