FREMONT — William Vernon Sauls, 79, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
William was born in Wayne County on Sept. 4, 1940, to the late Charles V. and Julia Perry Sauls. He retired from the tobacco industry after many years of service with Standard Commercial Tobacco Company. An avid outdoorsman, William enjoyed playing golf and working in his yard and garden. William would always share the bounty of his garden with his family and neighbors. He was devoted to his family and his church, Aycock Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
A service to celebrate William’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and other times at their home. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Eureka Cemetery.
William is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gray Lancaster Sauls; sons, Vernon Keith Sauls and wife Teresa of Bailey, Bryant Sauls and wife Donna of Eureka, and Greg Sauls and wife Debra of Goldsboro; and grandchildren, Miranda Sauls, Andrew Sauls, Kayla Sauls, Brylee Sauls, Chance Sauls and Gralynn Sauls. He is also survived by his sisters, Edith S. Head and Dora Lou S. Radford; and brothers, Charles Sauls and Wayne Sauls.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Julian Sauls and Donald Sauls.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in William’s memory to Aycock Primitive Baptist Church, in care of Edith Head, 445 Reidtown Road, Fremont, NC, 27830.
