ROCKY MOUNT — Behind a complete-game effort by starting pitcher Jarrett Aycock, the Springfield Middle baseball team completed an unbeaten season with a 6-3 victory over host Edwards in the Tricounties Athletic Conference championship game Monday.

Aycock struck out eight in getting the victory, which was the 13th for the Wildcats, the TAC South Division champions.

Gavin Huff led Springfield at the plate with a 3-for-4 showing while Cody Mercer, A.J. Kovach and Aycock each had a hit. Jason Mercer laid down a key bunt for the Wildcats while Andrew Clark sparkled on defense.

The Wildcats were coached by Travis Johnson, who was assisted by Jeremy Mercer, Clay Johnson and Phillip Johnson.
