The Wilson Christian varsity volleyball team kicked off its 2017 season Friday night, recording a 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 26-24 victory over Wayne Christian in nonconference play.

The Lady Chargers of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A District 3 ranks were tied 23-23 in the fourth set before a key block from freshman Tori Linkous made it 24-23 and put Wilson Christian on match point.

Junior Christy Jones had six kills, six digs and a pair of blocks to pace Wilson Christian, while senior Sydney Norville tallied four kills and a dig. Junior McKenna Griffin had four kills, two assists and four digs defensively. Linkous pitched in with a team-high three blocks and two kills.

Wilson Christian travels to face the New Life Storm on Tuesday.
