The Hunt High wrestling team kicked off its 2017-18 season with a tri-match of visiting North Lenoir and Bunn on Tuesday night.

Hunt of the 3-A Big East Conference doubled up the 2-A Eastern Carolina Conference Hawks 48-24 and turned back Bunn, a 2-A member of the split 1-A/2-A Northern Carolina Conference 33-30.

Three wrestlers finished 2-0 on the mat for Hunt, under the direction of second-year coach Steve Greer. Josiah Wattenberger, at 132 pounds, recorded a pin and a decision, including a key 5-3 decision victory in his match against the Wildcats. Wattenberger typically wrestles at 126 but was moved up to 132 for the opener.

Emmanuel Smoot (195) prevailed via pin and decision in his respective matches.
