Wilson is kicking off the holiday season this Friday night with the annual Light Up Wilson event.
Historic downtown Wilson will light up for two days with holiday festivities and send Wilsonians on a magical journey into Candyland.
Along with the lighting of the Christmas tree in the courthouse plaza at 6 p.m., there will also be a laser light show, a glow party, food trucks, live music, rides and children’s activites.
There will be carnival rides and food trucks at the corner of Tarboro and Nash streets.
From 7-9 p.m., there will be Candyland kids’ activites at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. The Grinch, his dog Max, and Cindy Lou Who will also be available to meet visitors and take photos.
Visitors can also catch up with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the courthouse plaza from 7-9 p.m.
217 Brew Works will be rocking with live rock music beginning at 7 p.m.
Saturday morning, the annual parade will run from Nash Street from Whitehead Avenue to Douglas Street, beginning at 11 a.m. It will include the high school marching bands, floats, dance performances, horses and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Jingle Mingle shopping will follow at Dance Studio B and holiday wagon rides will run from 1-9 p.m.
Holiday classics will be playing in the Boykin Center and kids’ activites will continue at the Whirligig Park. You can also enjoy cocoa and cookies at the chamber from 3-6 p.m.
Saturday night, the courthouse plaza will be filled with lights and music during the Glow-in-the-Dark Dance Party. The party is family-friendly and guests are encouraged to wear their best Christmasy glow-in-the-dark attire, paint and make-up.
