The Wilson Tobs’ 24th season as a charter member of the summer collegiate baseball Coastal Plain League is still set to begin Sunday, May 24 — for now.

Tobs general manager Mike Bell issued a press release Monday stating that the “CPL has asked us to prepare for the season as planned while continuing to evaluate the situation.”

However, Bell noted that, per a directive by the City of Wilson, Fleming Stadium will be closed for events until April 13. All Wilson Parks and Recreation Department athletic programs have been shelved for 30 days. Because of that directive, the Tobs’ Varsity Baseball Classic and Junior Varsity Baseball Classic were canceled but the team’s High School Baseball Classic set for April 17-18 is still on — for now.

Bell said that the actions of Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball and the NCAA will earn “special attention” as well as the public health recommedations from the Center for Disease Control and World Health Organization.
