Tobs prevail 7-5 at Peninsula

HAMPTON, Va. — Hunter Gore hit a two-run homer, and Andre Nnebe laced a two-run triple to highlight a six-run fifth inning Wednesday night for the Wilson Tobs in a 7-5 win over the Peninsula Pilots at War Memorial Stadium.

In capturing the final meeting between the teams this season, Wilson moved to 17-35 overall and 8-16 in the Coastal Plain League’s second half. Peninsula fell to 29-22, 13-10 in the second half.

Gore’s homer was his third of 2017, with Nnebe following with his two-run triple to make it 4-1. Dawnoven Smith and Jake Holtzapple tacked on run-scoring singles, extending Wilson’s edge to 6-1.

The Tobs, who played errorless defense, outhit Peninsula 11-7.

Austin Fisher laced an RBI single in the seventh for a 7-1 Tobs cushion.

Peninsula crept closer with two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, but K.J. McAllister was able to record the final out for the Tobs.

Wilson returns to Fleming Stadium on Thursday, facing Morehead City.
