EDENTON — The Wilson Tobs were the last unbeaten team in the Coastal Plain League and now there are none after the host Edenton Steamers scored in each of the first three innings and held on for a 5-2 victory Monday night in a game that was rained out Sunday.

The Tobs (2-1) got their runs on center fielder Brendan Doyle’s two-run home run in the top of the fourth, scoring first baseman Ben Faso to cut the Steamers’ lead to 3-2.

Edenton, which plated single runs off Wilson starter Jason Cornatzer (0-1) in each of the first three innings, answered Doyle’s blast with two runs in the bottom of the fourth for the final margin. Nick Caruso stroked a two-run single off Wilson reliever Carson Freeman.

It was the first 2018 victory after two losses for the Steamers, who lost 7-1 at home to the Tobs on Friday.

Three Edenton pitchers, including starter Jake Miller (1-0), held Wilson to just three hits. Ryan Scharf pitched the ninth to get the save.

Edenton banged out 10 hits with Caruso going 3 for 4 and Rich Ciufo finishing 2 for 3.

The Tobs return home to Fleming Stadium for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday against the Morehead City Marlins.
