Three-time champion Pat Brogden of Garner possesses a two-shot lead heading into Tuesday morning’s final round of the Carolinas Golf Association’s 14 North Carolina Senior Women’s Amateur Championship being contested at Wilson Country Club.

Battling windy conditions, Brodgen, seeking her first title since 2012, carded a 38-36—74, 2-over-par over the par 36-36—72, 5,563-yard WCC layout. Two shots back is 2011 victor Angela Stewart of Greenville with a 37-39—76.

Completing Tuesday’s final pairing is defending champion Patty Moore of Charlotte after posting a 39-38—77.

Brogden said her 74 was a product of managing her game.

“This time of year, I am pleased with how I played,” Brogden commented. “I was able to avoid three-putts, which is key on these greens.”

Brogden captured titles in 2007, 2010 and 2012.

“This event is always on my schedule,” Brogden said. “You want to play in your state championship. I’m proud to be a North Carolina Senior Women’s champion.”

Only the nine players in the Championship Flight of the Championship Division are eligible to win the tournament championship.

In the Second Flight, Wilson Country Club’s Patch Wilkinson stands second with a 43-42—85. Leading is Julie Shore of Raleigh with a 42-36—78. WCC’s Beth Rhyne came in at 105.

In the First Flight of the Carolinas Division, Cathy Garris of Lucama shares second place with Pam Congelosi of Vass. The front-runner is Pinehurst’s Dianne Yelovich with a 37-39—76.

Garris, who has won numerous Wilson County Amateur women’s titles, fashioned a 44-36—80, while Congelosi shot 41-39—80.

In the Second Flight, Priscilla Baker of WCC and Shirley Baker of Happy Valley Country Club are tied for eighth with rounds of 96.
