Fike High sophomore Zach Pittman played a major role in his Golden Demons varsity baseball team playing for the Golden Leaf Invitational championship last week, making him this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

In three games in the tournament, Zach batted .500 (3 for 6) with a double, a triple, three runs scored and four sacrifice bunts. In Fike’s 12-2, five-inning victory over defending Golden Leaf champion Oakwood, Zach was the winning pitcher, notching his second victory without a loss this season.

The son of Lesley and Chris Pittman of Wilson, Zach has a 4.3 weighted GPA at Fike, where he takes all Advanced Placement and honors courses. He is the treasurer for the Beta Club and is a member of the school’s chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Zach also plays football for the Demons.

As a freshman, he was a member of Fike’s North Carolina State Mathematics Contest team and was the school’s only participant to advance to the state competition.

Zach is active at Peace Church in Wilson and works part-time for Wilson Parks and Recreation Department. He plays showcase baseball for the Carolina Cubs.
