Reily Nelson’s offensive outburst last week helped her Fike High varsity girls soccer team stay unbeaten in 3-A Big East Conference play, making her this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Reily, a senior midfielder/defender, scored all four goals in the Lady Demons’ 4-1 win at Rocky Mount on Tuesday and then struck for two more goals in Fike’s 3-0 shutout of host Northern Nash on Thursday. That win was the Lady Demons’ fourth straight after starting the season 0-5, with all four victories coming against Big East foes.
The daughter of Emily and Tom Nelson of Wilson, Reily has a 3.9 weighted GPA at Fike, where she is a member of National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society and is one of the leaders of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has previously played basketball and run track at Fike. Reily has been an All-Big East first-team selection and a North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association 3-A All-Region 3 pick the last two years. She was one of the Sportsmanship Award winners for Fike at The Brittany XIV last month.
Reily works part-time for Wilson Parks and Recreation Department and also serves as a volunteer coach for its youth soccer program.
Reily, who will continue her soccer career at Western Carolina University, currently plays for North Carolina Football Club ’99 Elite.
