Plern Rattanaprakarn had one of the best rounds in Hunt High girls golf history last week, making her this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Plern, a junior exchange student from Bangkok, Thailand, shot a 1-over-par 73 to finish second overall at the North State High School Challenge at Keith Hills Golf Club in Buies Creek on Wednesday.
Plern has been the medalist in every match that she’s played for the Lady Warriors so far this season. She qualified for the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in November at Bermuda Run.
She recently won the Thailand Kids Golf Tour Cloud Venture Championship No. 2 in August, she before she came to the United States.
The daughter of Umaporn and Supakorn Rattanaprakarn of Bangkok, Plern’s host parents in Wilson are Donna and Thomas Gregorski. She has a converted 3.8 GPA and is taking honors math and history courses at Hunt.
Plern said that she enjoys hanging out with Martina, another exchange student at Hunt who is from Italy, as well as her new teammates and friends at Hunt
“People here are so friendly and I like the way it’s not so rushed and busy here,” she said.
As far as what she misses the most about home, Plern said: “My mom and dad, my friends.”
