Senior Patrick Smith helped his Greenfield School varsity boys soccer team get off to a great start under new head coach Eric Nguyen, making him the Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Patrick, one of three captains for the Knights, had a pair of assists and scored a goal as Greenfield routed Fayetteville Freedom Christian 8-2 in the season opener Thursday, the first day of the Dr. Robert T. Stone Memorial Showcase. Greenfield then defeated Thales Academy 2-1 in overtime before falling to Cary Christian 3-0 in the showcase championship match.

Patrick, the son of Elizabeth and Scott Smith of Wilson, has a 4.92 GPA entering his senior year at Greenfield, where he is the vice president of Student Government Association as well as a member of National Honor Society and Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy. He has earned the 3 and 30 award each of his three previous years at Greenfield and performed more than 300 hours of community service.

He also plays baseball and swims at Greenfield.

Patrick has also served on the City of Wilson’s Wilson Youth Council the past two years and worked as a volunteer at The SPOT’s Camp Sunshine over the summer.

A Boy Scout at Troop 6 at First United Methodist Church, Patrick is working on his Eagle project.
