Senior Jonathan Leyson made history for his Beddingfield High boys swim team last week, making him this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Jonathan won the boys 100-yard breaststroke to become the Bruins’ first 2-A Eastern Plains Conference champion in the league’s inaugural championship meet Thursday at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount. He also finished second in the 200 individual medley.
Ranked No. 1 in his senior class at Beddingfield, Jonathan has a 5.014 GPA while taking a full International Baccalaureate course load. He is a member of the school’s chapter of National Honor Society. Jonathan also plays percussion in the Bruins marching band and is a member of the Chess Club.
The son of Patricia and Trent Lucas and Kei Leyson, all of Wilson, Jonathan is active at Daniels Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Wilson. He works part-time as a lifeguard for Wilson Parks and Recreation Department and has helped tutor kids as part of the La Estrella Ministries of the United Methodist Church.
He hopes to attend either North Carolina State University or the University of Washington and major in computer science and creative writing.
