Joel Attoe helped his Wilson Christian Academy boys basketball go somewhere it hadn’t been in more than a decade last week, making him this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Joel, a 6-foot-0 junior forward, contributed heady play and outstanding defense to the Chargers’ run to the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A championship game, marking their first finals appearance since 2002. He came off the bench to provide a spark for the Chargers in their semifinals win Friday over Raleigh Christian before losing to Lexington Sheets Memorial in Saturday’s championship game at WCA.
The son of Joyce and Joel Attoe of Middlesex, Joel has a 4.3 weighted GPA at Wilson Christian, where he takes all honors courses and also plays soccer. He was ranked No. 1 in his class at the end of his sophomore year.
Joel is active at Peace Church of Wilson and serves as a volunteer referee for its Upward Basketball program.
In the summer, he operates his own lawn-care business.
