Jada Santiago’s big bat helped her North Johnston High varsity softball team reach the fourth round of the state 2-A playoffs last week, making her this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Jada, a junior third baseman, slugged a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie Tuesday’s third-round game against Bunn. The Lady Panthers would go on to win 6-5 with a run in the seventh inning. In North Johnston’s game at two-time defending North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2-A champion South Granville in the fourth round Friday, Jada slammed another three-run homer, her 10th of the season, but the Lady Panthers lost 11-7. For the week, she went 4 for 6 with six RBIs.
The daughter of Candy and Richard Santiago of Pine Level, Jada has a 4.0 weighted GPA at North Johnston, where she takes all honors courses. She is a member of the school’s chapter of National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Jada also plays volleyball and basketball for the Lady Panthers.
She is active at Temple Baptist Church in Smithfield and plays showcase softball with the North Carolina Wildcats of Fayetteville.
