Fike High freshman Gavin Wheeler was an offensive force in helping his Golden Demons soccer team reclaim the Rotary Cup, making him this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Gavin had five goals and an assist in Fike’s three games, including a goal and an assist in a 6-0 season-opening win over Wilson Christian on Tuesday. His scoring deluge continued with two goals Thursday in another 6-0 victory over Community Christian.
In Fike’s last Rotary Cup match Saturday, a 4-1 conquest of Greenfield, Gavin added two more goals to help the Demons capture the Cup.
An honor roll student during his three-year tenure at Elm City Middle School, Gavin is the possessor of a 4.0 grade-point average entering his high school career.
Gavin was active in Spanish Club at Elm City and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
A member of Raleigh Road Baptist Church, Gavin plays club soccer with NCFC Gold North and is in training to become a Wilson Recreation Department youth soccer official.
