Emory New helped her Southern Nash High varsity softball team capture the 3-A Big East Conference tournament championship and keep its winning streak going last week, making her this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Emory, a senior outfielder, batted .375 with two RBIs and four runs scored as the Ladybirds defeated Northern Nash in the final regular-season game Monday before topping Northern Nash and Hunt in the conference tournament to stretch their winning streak to 15 games.

The daughter of Paige and Marshal New of Nashville, Emory has a 4.61 GPA and is ranked second in her senior class at Southern Nash, where she takes honors and Advanced Placement courses as part of her dual enrollment at Nash Community College.

She is a member of National Technical Honor Society, Beta Club and Southern Nash’s Science Olympiad team. A former class president, Emory is president of the school’s chapter of Future Farmers of America and is the North Carolina FFA East Central Region’s treasurer. She also played volleyball for the Ladybirds.

Emory will attend North Carolina State University to study food science as part of the Goodnight Scholars Program.

She active in her youth group at Rock Creek Baptist Church of Nashville, participating in a mission trip to Charleston, South Carolina, last summer. 

She plans to work as a counselor at the N.C. State Engineering Camps in Raleigh this summer.
