Cody Whaley helped his C.B. Aycock High varsity baseball team get off to a winning start last week, making him this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Cody, a senior right-hander, gave up just one hit in 4 2/3 innings as the Golden Falcons won 11-0 in five innings at Hunt in the season opener Wednesday. In Friday’s 13-1 win at home against Northern Nash, Cody went 1 for 3 with two runs scored.
The son of Nel and Chris Whaley of Fremont, Cody has a 4.4 weighted GPA at Aycock, where he takes honors English this semester. He is a member of National Honor Society and the Technology Student Association at CBA.
Cody helps tutor students at Fremont STARS Elementary and attends Stoney Creek Church in Patetown.
A North Carolina High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state selection as a junior, Cody has signed to play baseball at Pitt Community College, where he intends to major in engineering before continuing to a four-year college.
