Amberlyn Pearce pitched her North Johnston High varsity softball team to its biggest win of the season to date last week, making her this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Amberlyn, a sophomore right-hander, struck out 14 Beddingfield players in going all seven innings as the Lady Panthers won 4-2 on Tuesday in Wilson. The victory kept North Johnston, now 9-3 overall, with the upper hand and unbeaten in the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference race. She also led off the sixth inning with a single and later scored.
The daughter of Lynn and Junior Pearce of Pine Level, Amberlyn has a 3.7 GPA at North Johnston, where she takes honors courses. She is a member of the school’s chapter of Future Farmers of America and plays on the volleyball team. She also works with special-needs students at North Johnston.
She is active at Temple Baptist Church in Selma and has served as a volunteer by delivering Angel Tree presents to nursing homes in Smithfield and at the Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church food pantry.
Amberlyn, who has verbally committed to UNC Wilmington, plays showcase softball with the Wildcards Elite program.
