The Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park will offer a new look for Sunday’s 200-lap Late Model Stock Car race that caps the season-ending weekend at the track.
For the first time in its 18 years, the Classic will employ controlled cautions whereby drivers will not lose their positions to other drives that pit when they come in for two tires (once).
The Classic, which began with races in four divisions, will continue Saturday, starting at 5 p.m., with six races, including 50-lap events in Street Stocks and Mini-Stocks.
Sunday’s finale, which begins at noon, includes a Last Chance 25-lap race, 40 laps of Chargers and a 75-lap Limited Late Model race before the Late Model Stock main event. Expected to be in the field for the finale are 2017 winner Matt McCall; Phillip Morris, who won the first ever Thanksgiving Classic in 1998, and 2018 SNMP Limited Late Model champion Mike Darne.
General admission tickets for Sunday’s races are $25 while senior citizens, active military personnel and students with student ID can get in for $20. As always, children 5 and under are free.
