Wilson performing artists will be on the stage Saturday for the Next Level Veterans Road to New York Open Call televised auditions tonight at Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts and Education.

“It is just a big night of entertainment,” said Captain Newborn, senior producer for Next Level Veterans. “We are going to shock the world here with all of the talent that we found in Wilson.”

Saturday’s show, to be filmed for NBC’s Launch TV and SeeMe TV, will feature the top acts from preliminary auditions held Aug. 3.

Newborn said attendees should be thoroughly entertained. The show’s style and format are similar to Amateur Night at The Apollo.

“We do it the same way on the road. It’s complete audience participation,” Newborn said. “The audience decides the winner. If they see an act that they like, they clap for it. If they see an act that they hate, they boo them off the stage. We are bringing the Sandman, the Log, the Full Band and even the TV models. It’s a lot of fun. We have two special guests that we are not announcing. They are going to be really surprised at who we have coming. Our band is going to have them rocking.”

The performance starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $20.

“We usually put the band out about 10 or 15 minutes earlier to start warming up the crowd,” Newborn said.

The winners receive expense-paid trips to New York and a chance to audition at the world-famous Apollo Theater for amateur night.

The sponsors are Next Level Veterans Day Campus and Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts and Education.

“There is more talent here than we have seen in a lot of the big cities,” Newborn said.
