A Wilson man faces an attempted murder charge after police say he shot another man in the face.
On May 18, police responded to a 11:27 p.m. call to the 600 block of Minchew Street regarding a person who had been shot. Officers arrived to find 28-year-old Akeem S. Evans of Wilson suffering from a gunshot wound to his face, officials said.
Evans was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for trauma care. Police said he is in stable condition.
After conducting an investigation, Wilson police and the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested 31-year-old Travis A. Melvin after he was found in the 6100 block of Finch Road south of Bailey, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.
He was jailed without bond in the Nash County Detention Center, according to police.
Melvin is charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and causing damage to personal property.
POLICE PROBE SHOOTINGS
Wilson police have investigated multiple shootings and shots-fired calls over the past several weeks. Many arrests have been made.
In a separate case, police responded to the 600 block of Suggs Street on May 19 in regards to a shots-fired call.
Police spoke to a woman who said someone shot at her home, according to officials. Officers found evidence that her home was hit with a single bullet. No one was injured.
