Struggling Bulldogs tied for 11th after first round of Tennessee River Rumble

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — The struggling Barton College men’s golf team found itself deadlocked for 11th place among 20 teams after Monday’s first round of the Tennessee River Rumble at the WindRiver Golf Club.

The Bulldogs managed a 307, 19-over-par, for their low four individuals. Host Lincoln Memorial leads at 5-over 293.

King (Tennessee) University, an NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas member along with Barton, shares second place with Young Harris and Carson-Newman at 296.

Also from Conference Carolinas, Southern Wesleyan occupies ninth (303), North Greenville a share of 11th and Belmont Abbey a tie for 13th (309).

Junior Dominic O’Brien and senior Justin Plane paced the Bulldogs with rounds of 75 and are deadlocked for 24th individually. Sophomore Bryson Boyette of Wilson and Fike High is tied for 30th with a 76. Barton also counted an 81 from Justin Poole. Austin Schone shot 82.

Setting the individual pace with 3-under 69s over the par-72, 7,018-yard layout were Lincoln Memorial’s Harry Boyle and Carson-Newman’s Jake Headrick.

The final two rounds are scheduled for Tuesday.
