Katelyn Davis, a Forest Hills Middle School student, is a winner in a statewide essay contest celebrating Forest Products Week. Davis wrote an essay titled "Are All Fires Bad?" in which she researched to find that certain fires, such as prescribed fires, are beneficial to the environment. The essay contest was in honor of Smokey Bear's 75th birthday. North Carolina Forest Service officials presented Davis with a plaque at school.
