Spend the day at free film festival

Whirligig Park and Boykin Center will host the Tarheel Shorties Film Festival Saturday, June 8, showing a variety of short films. The event is free.

The film festival is presented by Cucalorus, the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, the N.C. Arts Council and the Arts Council of Wilson.

The event starts at 4 p.m. with a panel discussion at the Boykin Center on how arts impact economic development.

At 5:30 p.m., the Boykin Center will host five short films for everyone.

The event moves to Whirligig Park at 7:30 p.m. for the band Victoria Victoria.

Outdoor short films, start at 8:45 p.m. at the park. Eight will be screened.

At 10:30 p.m., six late night short films will be shown at the Boykin Center.
