Re: “Rampant spending, national debt threaten our future” by Rep. George Holding, Tuesday:

Wow! What a profound statement by Mr. Holding. If he delivers this philosophy and votes this way in Congress, I must say that we have a representative who begs for the endurance of this great country and our fragile democracy.

To add substance to this guest column, here are a few quotes by some prominent people.

“The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, the public debt should be reduced and the arrogance of public officials should be controlled.” — Ross Perot

“Alexander Hamilton started the U.S. Treasury with nothing and that is the closest our country has ever been to being even.” — Will Rogers

“Remember. Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” — John Adams

“Most bad government has grown out of too much government.” — Thomas Jefferson

Mr. Holding writes of the growing number of Democrats attaching themselves to the proposal of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the socialists to support the “Green New Deal” of an estimated cost of $93 trillion over the next 10 years. This will surely bankrupt the country if there is anything left to bankrupt.

Also, a job for everyone is also in the future of AOC and her socialist cohorts. A real, meaningful job for everyone would be great if development is by supply and demand, but the priority of the socialist is not a job, but a paycheck for everyone — job or no job. This, of course, includes all undocumented immigrants and the millions to come who the liberals are betting on to augment their base.

The AOC democracy busters are on a crusade to tax the prosperous people from existence. To me, one of the major components of freedom and democracy is the right to gain wealth. Show me a government that does not allow a citizen to acquire wealth and I will show you a country without freedom. Check out our neighbor, Cuba.

Get real, people — democracy is not meant to provide everything that a citizen desires; it gives citizens the right to strive for everything they desire.
