Facing the imposing front line of Sanford Grace Christian, the Wilson Christian varsity boys basketball team experienced a sluggish second quarter Tuesday night, digging a 19-point deficit at halftime en route to a 54-43 loss.

Wilson Christian (1-2) of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A District 3 ranks shot just 27 percent from the floor and trailed 32-12 at halftime.

“We were aware of that coming in,” WCA assistant coach Jordan Skinner said. “It wasn’t the height, but how to attack it. As a result, our offensive shot selections wasn’t the best.”

Julian Steinfeld, a 6-foot-10 center and Allan Taylor, a 6-8 power forward, led the Grace Christian (2-0) front line. Steinfeld led the Crusaders with 15 points as Nathan Yow chipped in 14.

Also plaguing WCA were 21 turnovers and a 6-for-15 effort from the free-throw line. However, the Chargers battled back and trailed 40-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Zach Hunter led the Chargers with 14 points, with Jimmy Forte notching a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds. Joel Attoe tallied four points and eight boards.
