FARMVILLE — The Southern Nash High varsity baseball team tuned for its 3-A Big East Conference opener at home Tuesday against Fike with a 10-3 triumph against host Farmville Central of the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference on Friday.
Winning pitcher Dawson Sikes, a senior, not only notched his third win but ignited the offense with a two-run home run to left field in the first inning. Sikes allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) in four innings of work.
Leading 2-0, the Firebirds erupted for six runs in the third. Trevor Mills and Hunter Perry each doubled and Ryan Marlowe and Jason Montague each laced RBI singles. In the two-run fifth, Alex Marlowe slugged a run-producing triple and Mills came through with a sacrifice fly.
The second win in as many evenings boosted Southern Nash’s record to 7-2.
