A Wilson man faces an attempted murder charge after police say he shot a man in the chest.
Police responded to an 11:30 p.m. call to the 1600 block of Carolina Street on Feb. 16.
When officers arrived, they found 22-year-old Tykorian M. Holden of Wilson with a gunshot would to his chest, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.
Holden was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries, Stroud said.
Officers searched for the suspect, who police later identified as 24-year-old Chaquan Unique Whitaker of Wilson, Stroud said.
The K-9 unit tracked Whitaker and found him in the 1700 block of Carolina Street. Whitaker was later arrested in the 1700 block of Washington Street, Stroud said. Police also recovered a handgun while they were tracking Whitaker.
Whitaker is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Whitaker was jailed in lieu of a $520,000 secured bond.
