SHARPSBURG — The town’s search for a new manager is nearly over.
After an hour-long closed session Monday afternoon, Mayor Robert Williams announced the board had picked a new manager, but nothing would be official until the chosen candidate accepted the job offer.
An announcement should be made at the town’s regular meeting next month.
The town board interviewed two finalists for the position during a closed session last week. One candidate was interviewed via Skype and one candidate was interviewed in person, according to the special meeting agenda.
Town Clerk Tracy Sullivan has acted as interim town manager since Blake Proctor retired more than a year ago.
Proctor, a manager in local governments since 1981, served as Sharpsburg’s chief administrator from October 2016 to October 2018. During his tenure, Proctor reduced the town’s annual operating budget by nearly $500,000.
In other town business at the town’s regular meeting last week, Williams appointed Commissioner Beverly Davis as liaison to the Sharpsburg Planning Board.
Commissioners appointed residents Jacqueline Lauterback, Cheryl O’Neal, Vivian Pride and Shenise Pender to the town’s Parks and Recreation Committee.
The commissioners are set to meet again at 6 p.m. Feb. 4 at Sharpsburg Town Hall, 110 W. Railroad St.
