Wilson County Schools had mixed results in accountability and testing scores released Wednesday by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

The range includes two school with a grade of A, and two with grades of F.

Wilson County Schools superintendent Lane Mills said he looks forward to sharing a complete snapshot of the data at the Sept. 16. Wilson County Board of Education meeting.

“The hard work of our students and staff that is represented in these results should be celebrated,” Mills said. “Our informal analyses show that we moved up a spot in the state ranking to 58th overall based on the percent of students at or above grade level on state testing even with a new mathematics test.”

Mills said Wilson County Schools is 7 percentage points away from being in the top 20 of highest performing school systems in the state.

“Over the last three years, we have the largest increase in students achieving at or above grade level of any district in the state,” Mills said. “Of the more than 2,500 public schools in North Carolina, 119 of them received a performance grade of A and exceeded academic growth expectations, and Wilson Early College Academy and New Hope Elementary were a part of that group. While we are always looking to improve in all areas, we are proud of our WCS family and anticipate another successful year.”

Wilson Early College Academy earned the highest school performance score with a 94 and an A school performance grade. The school performance grade is a combination of the school achievement score and the school growth score.

The next highest were elementary schools. Rock Ridge Elementary School earned a school performance score of 86 for a school performance grade of A, followed closely by New Hope Elementary School with a school performance score of 85 and a school performance grade of A.
