After a survey of Wilson County students, teachers and parents, the Wilson County Board of Education approved the 2019-20 school year calendar for the 2019-20 for both traditional schools and early colleges Monday night.
The school administration considered two main options for its traditional calendar, with the largest difference that in Option 1, the first semester would end after winter break while the Option 2 calendar closed the semester before students and teachers depart for the Christmas holiday.
‘We conducted a survey for our parents and our teachers, and out of these two options, Option 2 was the favorable one, with 971 participants siding with Option 2,” said Assistant Superintendent Cheryl Wilson. “We had 1,097 surveys that were actually completed and 1,030 of those were done online.”
Chairwoman Christine Fitch said the school board’s Instructional Services Committee selected Option 2 and recommended that calendar to the full board. Members voted unanimously to approve that calendar selection.
The school board also approved calendars for the Wilson Academy of Applied Technology and Wilson Early College Academy, which aligns with Wilson Community College’s calendar.
