MIDDLESEX — State Bureau of Investigation agents are examining an officer-involved shooting at a rural Johnston County home.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety requested the State Bureau of Investigation to conduct a probe into a shooting involving a probation and parole officer who was conducting an official home visit outside Middlesex just before 9 p.m. Thursday, DPS spokesman Greg Thomas said Friday in a news release.
One person, who hasn’t been identified, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Thomas said.
The officer was not injured.
The officer has been placed on administrative duty while the investigation unfolds, Thomas said.
“The SBI is conducting an independent investigation while the department conducts its own internal investigation, all of which is agency protocol in any officer-involved shooting,” Thomas said.
