Several hundred Wilsonians turned out Thursday night for the annual Christmas tree lighting at the Light Up Brentwood event held at The Shoppes at Brentwood. The Fike High School Choral Ensemble and the Greenfield School Student Chorus sang a variety of Christmas carols. WRAL television personality Bill Leslie led the countdown of the tree lighting and then performed on the guitar for the crowd. The event was also the start of the bell ringing season for The Salvation Army. Winter outfits were paraded across the stage in the Brentwood fashion show. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus made a surprise appearance for children to end the night. This is the fifth year that Brentwood merchants have hosted the yuletide kickoff.
