Here’s a solution to telemarketing calls: Make it mandatory for the caller to be a live person, not a recording.
Before their pitch begins, the telemarketers must ask: “Are you all right? Have you fallen and can’t get up?” et cetera. And if there is a problem, the telemarketer must call 911.
Then the lonely, older people most often targeted by telemarketers will get at least three or four calls a day — and maybe they want to talk a little.
