Steve Brown shared this photo from the Parkwood Cinema's grand opening on Aug. 8, 1968. The auditorium held 560 patrons and the back four rows contained ashtrays for smokers' convenience. Brown said fountain drinks and boxes of popcorn were sold for 40 cents each. Pictured from left are Charles B. Trexler, CEO of Stewart & Everett Theaters; Brown's father, Haywood Brown; Irma Jewel Smith, the reigning Miss Wilson in 1968; and E.B. Pittman, mayor of Wilson. The Wilson Times is publishing historical photos of Wilson County life and landmarks in this space each day.
