Elizabeth Bottoms shared this picture of an ornate wooden cabinet her ancestors received as a wedding present from Col. David Williams, one of the founders of Wilson County. “Colonel Williams was one of the wealthiest and most prominent men in the northern part of Wilson County” and served in the state legislature, local historian Hugh Johnston wrote in a biographical capsule republished in The Wilson Times on April 7. Bottoms wrote that Williams gave the cabinet to Zachariah Hyman Weaver and Louisa Annetta Gay in celebration of their marriage on Dec. 16, 1875. Zachariah and Louisa Weaver are the parents of Mattie Weaver Bottoms. The Wilson Times is publishing historical photos of Wilson County life and landmarks in this space each day. To share your snapshots, email the picture and caption to Lori Parrish at email@example.com with the subject line Remember When or bring it to the Times office at 126 Nash St. during regular business hours.
