Lisa Henderson shared this photo, titled “An Early Picture of the Men’s Civic Club,” from the Freeman Roundhouse Museum collection. The club was founded in 1939 to address “the problems and needs (civic, educational and recreational) of the Negroes of greater Wilson — city and county.” The photo probably dates from around 1950. Standing are an unidentified man; Episcopalian priest the Rev. Robert J. Johnson; Baptist minister the Rev. Fred M. Davis; and an unidentified man. Seated are Camillus L. Darden; an unidentified man; Presbyterian minister the Rev.Obra J. Hawkins; and Charles Darden James. The Wilson Times is publishing historical photos of Wilson County life and landmarks in this space each day. To share your snapshots, email the picture and caption to Lori Parrish at email@example.com with the subject line Remember When or bring it to the Times office at 126 Nash St. during regular business hours.
