Charlotte Vick shared this image of former N.C. Agriculture Commissioner Jim Graham honoring Vick Family Farms patriarch Jerome Vick. “With the power vested in me as Sodfather of the state of North Carolina, I hereby anoint and commission E. Jerome Vick as a tobacco guru,” a caption printed beneath the picture states. Graham is the state's longest-serving commissioner of agriculture, winning election to the post nine times before retiring in 2001. Vick was honored last month with a Tobacco Great award during an event hosted by the N.C. Department of Agriculture, N.C. State University and the Tobacco Growers of North Carolina. The Wilson Times is publishing historical photos of Wilson County life and landmarks in this space each day.
