Wilson fisherman Scott Irby landed this blackfin tuna, weighing 26.7 pounds, during a trip earlier this week to the East Rock, east side of Cape Lookout shoals in 70-degree temperatures and water 70 feet deep. Irby was joined by Ashley Narron, Larry Lane, John Wooten and Billy Clark aboard his boat, “Reel Deal.” The tuna was hooked with a dead cigar minnow on a blue head pearl. Irby used a Mac-a-Hoo rig, 20-pound mono line and a Shimano Speedmaster reel. The state record for a blackfin tuna is 40 pounds and Irby’s catch was of citation size.
