Rams rally to earn 4th meeting with Kinston

HENDERSON — Trailing by eight points at halftime, the Greene Central High varsity boys basketball team unearthed a massive 30-point outburst in the third quarter Thursday night to take control of Northern Vance and hold on for a 67-59 victory in the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2-A playoffs.

Greene Central, the No. 9 East Region seed and the second entrant from the Eastern Carolina Conference, improved to 23-6 overall. Northern Vance, champions of the split 1-A/2-A Northern Carolina Conference, finished its year at 20-8.

Now, the Rams will get a fourth and final meeting with ECC and top overall East seed Kinston on Saturday night in Viking Gym. Kinston (22-4) leads the season series 2-1 after getting a one-point victory in the ECC tournament championship game and beat No. 16 Roanoke Rapids 60-51 on Thursday night to advance.
