WINTERVILLE — Trailing 10-0 after four innings, the Wilson Post 13 American Legion baseball team soared to a 17-10 comeback victory to ignite it to a pair of conquests in as many outings in the Pitt County American Legion Showcase on the Pitt Community College diamond Saturday and Sunday.

The Post 13 squad of head coach Noah Edens turned back Pleasure Island Post 129 of Wilmington by the 17-10 margin Saturday and then shelled Wallace Post 156, 14-1 in five innings Sunday.

With a 3-5 record, Wilson returns to Area I East Division action in Fleming Stadium at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Post 39 of Pitt County.

Edens assured the comeback jump-started the weekend assault, adding: “A lot of things went right for us the last two days. For the last two weeks, things didn’t go our way.”

Post 13, on Saturday, came to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning just three outs away from seeing the game ended because of the 10-run rule.

But a walk to Dom Gaetano, Josh Fuller’s double, a hit batter (Will Stewart) and Tanner Sullivan’s sacrifice fly got Wilson on the scoreboard. The comeback spark was strengthened by four consecutive walks.

Gaetano came to bat for the second time in the inning and laced a two-run single. After another hit batsman, Stewart capped the uprising with a three-run double.

Trey Dail ignited the nine-run sixth with a single and Ty Narron beat out a bunt. After a Pleasure Island error, Post 13 took the lead on Fuller’s single. Stewart cleared the bases with a triple and Sullivan belted a two-run home run.

Wilson wasn’t through. Jamar Ellis and Payton Bass each doubled and Dail and Narron each singled.

Sullivan, a left-hander and Post 13’s starting pitcher, labored six innings to even his record at 1-1. Sullivan and Gaetano blanked Pleasure Island the last three innings.

On Sunday afternoon, Fuller stopped Wallace on three hits in pitching all five innings. Fuller (1-2) allowed an unearned run and one walk while striking out five. Wallace managed a run in the second inning with the aid of three passed balls.

Wilson, which collected 14 hits, jumped on losing pitcher Logan Brown for five runs in the bottom of the first. Then came a seven-run spree in the fourth.

In the first, Sullivan drilled a two-run double and Narron delivered a two-run single. In the fourth, Fuller, Stewart and Sullivan each singled and Mason Lee hammered a two-run double.

Fuller’s 3-for-4 performance led the Wilson offense. Bass went 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Stewart, Sullivan and Narron each banged out two hits. Sullivan drove in three runs.
